Unfortunately, many voters proceed, with blinders - on, and vote, based on empty promises and rhetoric, rather than for those, ready, and prepared, to lead, make the challenging, often - difficult/ unpopular decisions, who will do what's right, instead of expedient! If it wasn't so, potentially, dangerous, it might be funny, when those holding office, run - away from their record, and make distorted claims, or skew the facts, in order to get reelected. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly consider, review and discuss, a few examples, of this behavior, which we often witness, in our incumbents. 1. Health care: One of the most politically, polarizing laws, in this century, was the Affordable Care Act, or A.C.A. (which is often referred to, as Obamacare). Because of political considerations, in terms of getting it enacted, this legislation, while well - meaning, failed to consider certain ramifications, and necessities. The glaring one, of course was the cost of this, which mandated, having health insurance, or paying a tax - penalty, consequence. In an ideal world, if we were to have handled this properly and effectively/ efficiently, rather than dismantling it, we would have strengthened it, and made it better. When Donald Trump ran for office, he campaigned on saying, he'd get rid of it, and replace it, with something, far better. He proclaimed it would be easy to do, but, like many other campaign promises, discovered it was a far more complex issue, and his party attempted, several times, to eliminate it. However, their proposals, instead of improving things, would have produced something far worse, and failed to effectively improved the weaknesses. One of the glaring consequences, is the potential, to go, back, to the past, and eliminate covering preexisting conditions, which might have dire consequences for millions of Americans. Many Republicans are running, against, what they did, blaming their Democratic opponents, for the flaws, and consequences! 2. Tax reform: The much - proclaimed, tax reform legislation, enacted last year, heavily favored the wealthiest, and those in low - tax states, and corporations, and did little of consequence, to significantly help the middle class. Now, many of these same representatives, are seeking to double - down, and make some of the temporary provisions, permanent, despite the fact, we have witnessed, a huge spike in the nation's fiscal deficit! Incumbents might have wanted to campaign on lowering taxes, but because of the consequences, have stated, very little about this! 3. Freedoms: Many legislators have favored the part of the Pledge of Allegiance, which calls, for, Under God (which was not part of the original Pledge, and added in the 1950's), but have seemed to ignore the essential statement, calling for, Liberty and justice for all. Selective liberties, based on one's political/ personal agenda, and self - interest, has never been the American Way! Rhetoric, distortions, blaming and complaining, and proclaiming, anything which differs, from supporting any position, as Fake Facts, does not serve citizens, best interests! Wake up, America, and closely examine, the real facts, and how/ why, incumbents voted as they did, and hold them, accountable!
